Vancouver Fan Expo Run Down
This past weekend was the annual Vancouver Fan Expo, a pop culture convention that brings together nerds, cosplayers, gamers, actors, and more.
There were some great guests this year including Felicia Day and Ron Pearlman. There were lots of great vendors and some awesome comic book creators.
Horror Bound was invited as press and so Ceara and I packed up all our stuff and spent the weekend meeting some great folks, taking photos of some great horror cosplay, and geeking out.
I will say, it’s a shame that Fan Expo doesn’t include more horror. The first year I attended about 5 years ago, Rue Morgue set up a booth there. They had a whole horror section with great actors and directors, including the incredible Soska twins. But since then the horror has virtually disappeared. We were hoping since it was so close to Halloween, more people would be dressed in horror type costumes, but nope. And it’s frustrating because this city just seems to ignore all the great horror films and shows that are filmed here. Vancouver doesn’t have a horror convention at all, it does have a Halloween convention but it does not allow blood or gore. So it’s basically just another anime convention that happens to take place near Halloween. IT MAKES ME SUPER ANGRY.
BUT - we did have fun this weekend and I want to share with you our weekend. But on a side note, if any one wants to work with me to start up a Vancouver horror convention….email me!
Here’s the amazing horror themed cosplay we found this weekend! A BIG thank you to everyone who let us take their photo and chatted with us. You are all my favorites!
A big shout out to those guys above. Your costumes are amazing. If you’re ever looking for someone to join your squad, please call me.
Thank you to Fan Expo for allowing us to run around the convention all weekend! I look forward to next years con and am crossing my fingers the horror element will one day return!
