Happy Death Day 2, The Tommyknockers, and More!
HORROR NEWS ROUND-UP - HAPPY DEATH DAY 2, THE TOMMYKNOCKERS, AND MORE!
Guys, we're one week closer to Halloween. This week I purchased my first Halloween candy haul and while I haven't gotten to Michaels yet, I've heard their Halloween collection is out and it's amazing.
Lots of interesting news this week, lots of updates, so let's wrap it all up!
First up, Jason Blum did a little AMA on twitter this week and has some pretty interesting things to say. Firstly that Blumhouse is absolutely going after other horror franchises like they did with Halloween. Personally, I'd like them to take on Scream and Final Destination. Two of my favorite franchises. And while it would be tough to have Scream without Wes, I think Blumhouse would do a pretty great job re-imagining it.
Blum also mentioned that Happy Death Day 2 has been filmed and he's watched it! Jessica Rothe will be returning as the incredible Tree. He also said that The Gallows 2 should be coming in the next 9 months or so. I'm not a fan of The Gallows, but I still think it's great that it's getting a sequel. Let's build more horror franchises!!
The creator of Fox's amazing TV series, The Exorcist, is most likely writing the The Tommyknockers remake. Jeremy Slater is also known as the writer of Death Note and The Lazarus Effect. The Tommyknockers is Stephen King's 1987 alien story. The film will be produced through Atomic Monster, owned by James Wan. Lots of exciting people attached to this remake and I'm really looking forward to it.
The Tommyknockers was originally made into a two part miniseries for ABC in 1998. It was...er...not the best...
But the book is amazing and I re-read it every couple of years.
One of my favorite people in the world, Kevin Smith, is currently working on an anthology inspired by the graffiti "KilRoy Was Here" which showed up during WW2. Smith is directing one of the segments and began filming last summer. It's been on hold for awhile but has now picked up filming again.
This week Smith posted on Facebook a photo of him and Chris Jericho. The two have been friends and fans of each other for awhile, both appearing on each other's podcasts a few years ago. He calls Jericho's character The Gator Chaser - "a nasty-ass South Florida streamer".
Smith has been working with the kids from Ringling College on this anthology. He calls it a "modern-day Creepshow kinda flick" and is allowing the students to show case their talents.
I'm very curious about this anthology and can't wait to see and hear more!
The Suspiria remake is almost upon us and so far we've been blessed with a trailer and two images from the film. The most recent one being Tilda Swinton's character Madame Blanc. And she looks PERFECT. I'm trying not to set my expectations too high for this flick but wow it's just blowing me away with everything I've seen so far. Also, asking for a friend, where can I get a dress like that for Halloween??
Suspiria hits theaters on November 2nd and stars Dakota Johnson as Susie.
Funko, as everyone knows, is an amazing company that sells many collectible toys. Pretty much everyone has at least one in their house. I've got a big horror collection from Halloween to AHS to Supernatural. But in the past few years I've kind of gotten over it...mostly because we've run out of space.
But you better believe I'm gonna find some space for their newest horror collection. Funko's newly-launched 5 Star series is releasing some amazing new additions this Halloween season. You can see above - Pennywise, Krueger, Chucky and Jason Voorhees. BASICALLY EVERYONE I LOVE!
And if that isn't enough - the figures are posable and come with adorable little accessories.
I NEED THEMMMMMM!
