Weekly Favorites - Ma, Eli Roth, and Creepshow, Oh My!
The trailer for Ma dropped and holy fuck is it ever savage. For some reason I thought this was going to be like a House Mother in college type of deal but I was way off. Octavia Spencer stars as Ma, a middle-aged woman who befriends a bunch of local kids. She buys them beer and lets them hang out in her basement. She only has one rule – never go upstairs. Before long, Ma is shoving herself into their lives, be-friending their parents and texting them constantly. And obviously, the kids go upstairs.
Based on the trailer, she’s a total psycho. There’s some insane moments in the trailer so I can only imagine how crazy this flick is actually going to be. I am SO on-board.
Ma is in theaters May 31st and also stars Juliette Lewis and Luke Evans. Check out the trailer below:
We got some new Creepshow updates! Production is underway and it will be a six-episode season featuring an adaptation of a Stephen King short story. Rumors are that it will be Survivor Type which is AWESOME. We also learned this week that there will be segments based on stories from Joe Hill, Josh Malerman, Joe Lansdale, and Rob Schrab.
Greg Nicotero will be executive producing and it will be going to Shudder when released. Nicotero will also be directing some of the episodes. David Bruckner (The Ritual) and Roxanne Benjamin (Southbound) are also attached.
You can see above that Nicotero recently posted a photo on IG letting us know episode one is wrapped!

Eli Roth is getting ready to shoot his next movie in Boston. FUCK YES. Ya’ll know I am an unapologetic Eli Roth fan so this is amazing news to me. We know absolutely nothing except that principle photography will begin late March. The project was written by Roth and Jeff Rendell.
People are speculating that it will be the movie for his faux trailer Thanksgiving which plays during Grindhouse. But people speculate that every time he films a movie. So who knows!
In the meantime, while we wait for any shred of news, Eli Roth’s History of Horror hits Shudder on February 21st. I’m excited to finally watch all of it! I only got through the first two episodes before my PVR malfunctioned and deleted everything off of it. RIP.
And that’s it for the week! It was kind of a great week news wise you guys! What was your favorite thing that happened in horror this week? Let me know in the comments below…
