Weekly Favorites - US poster, spooky trailers, vampires and more!
It’s official – we are in February! One week in! We got lots of trailers this week and some great stuff dropped onto Shudder. Let’s dive right in:
During the Super Bowl on Sunday Guillermo Del Toro dropped four terrifying trailers for the upcoming flick – Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. This is, of course, based on the Alvin Schwartz stories that scarred us all as children.
The movie will premier at the end of summer, August 9th. It will bring several of the short stories into an overarching story. It will be set in 1968 in Mill Valley. There’s a mansion on the outskirts of town where the Bellows family live. A young girl named Sarah has a lot of terrible secrets and her life is a series of scary stories that she wrote down. A group of teenagers come across the book she wrote and then….well….we’ll see!
Four TV spot teasers are now online and they are all absolutely terrifying. We can see from the trailers that it features the story of The Big Toe:
A young boy finds a toe and eats it for dinner with his family. The owner comes looking for the toe when the boy is asleep.
The Dream: the Pale Lady….she appears in a dream of a young artist and urges her to leave the evil house she’s in. When the artist moves to a new home, she realizes actually, this is the room from her nightmare.
The Red Spot: A young girl gets a spider bite and develops a red spot. It bursts and out comes a flood of spiders. (this will be the death of me)
There’s also a character called the Jangly Man that doesn’t seem to be from the original stories. He will be portrayed by Doug Jones.
We got an official full-length trailer for the new TV show spin off, What We Do in The Shadows. It debuts on FX on Wednesday the 27th of March. It looks absolutely hilarious and I’m SO FREAKIN EXCITED FOR THIS SHOWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also hiiii energy vampire…that’s me…
Rue Morgue, my favorite horror magazine, recently set up their YouTube account and they have some excellent videos up. One of my favorites is a chat with Tom Savini and Bob Elmore talking about Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. They’re both so blunt and funny and of course, incredibly knowledgeable. It’s a really great listen to hear some behind the scenes stories that I haven’t heard before. Also I could listen to Tom Savini talk film alllll day long.
Check it out here:
The Boy 2 started filming here in Vancouver on January 28th so I guess it’s officially happening! Written by Stacey Menear, who also penned its predecessor, The Boy 2 will be produced by Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi and Eric Reid, in addition to Matt Berenson, Jim Wedaa and Roy Lee.
Here’s the premise:
Unaware of the terrifying history of Heelshire Mansion, a young family moves into the estate, where their young son soon makes an unsettling new friend, an eerily life-like doll he calls Brahms.
And below we have a first look. I actually really liked The Boy on my second watch and have grown quite fond of it. Although it’s only one image…it looks super creepy!
My absolute favorite thing of the week though? The new poster for US. There was also a new trailer, but I didn’t watch it because I want to go in knowing almost nothing! But look at this fucking gorgeous poster??!?! Like….woooooooow.
