Girl House Fucking Rocks
I watched Girl House.
And this movie fucking rocked.
It's a Canadian film directed by Trevor Matthews and starring Adam DiMarco and Ali Cobrin. Our lead girl Kylie is recruited to join an X-rated reality web series, like Big Brother for porn, called Girl House. She’s been struggling to pay for school and this seems like the perfect opportunity. The house she moves into has 24/7 camera feeds where the girls can do their show for those that pay to watch. Kylie is told the house is completely safe and incapable of being hacked, and that the house itself is untraceable. But this is a horror movie. So obviously that’s not true.
She quickly feels at home with the other girls and the security staff and begins to work. She quickly attracts the attention of a username known as Loverboy. The other girls get annoyed because Loverboy is constantly asking for Kylie and is clearly obsessed. The girls make fun of him and Loverboy hears on camera. He snaps. He hacks. Murder ensues.
It's an absolute joy of a film. It's very ‘80s slasher, super aware of itself, lots of hacking and slashing, lots of boobs. The girls are all unique characters and Kylie is a wonderful lead - confident, but damaged, who knows she's doing the right thing but is still conflicted. I could've watched another hour of the girls just interacting and Kylie falling in love. Loverboy is the perfect villain. Creepy, believable, and when he breaks into the house he wears a face he ripped off of one of those sex dolls which is pretty frightening.
The two guy characters, one being Kylie's boyfriend, and the other his room mate, are a great dynamic and I was freaking out as they watch the murders happen in girl house and try to stop it from happening. It reminded me of Halloween Resurrection.
This was Matthews first time directing which is really impressive, he said he used the original Halloween movie’s structure as a guide. While it’s not a unique concept it is carefully thought out with very little plot holes and a strong cast of actors. I just love it so much, and it is so refreshing. This is why horror can be so great and so much fun when you just need a distraction from the outside world. Beautifully shot, great dialogue, flawless story lines, and so much fun to watch. I will aggressively recommend this to everyone!
