Godzilla Vs. Kong vs. The Hype
There are those among us who have been waiting for this fight to happen for about what feels like ten years now but it’s only been since they teased it at the end of 2014’s Godzilla reboot. And I have to say it’s been worth the wait.
Godzilla Vs. Kong is the fourth movie in the recent Warner Bros. franchise of the classic kaiju series, and these two Titans second fight in their decades long existence, since 1962’s King Kong vs. Godzilla. These recent films have been hampered for the most part with trying to include a human element in them, which in previous films has dragged the film’s pace to a crawl for the most part, save for the only other Kong part of the franchise, Kong: Skull Island. Things are a little different this time out, as between the script by Eric Pearson (Marvel’s Black Widow) and Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island) and the directing by Adam Wingard (You’re Next), they find a way to balance the human characters, including some good work by genre vets Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) Brian Tyree Henry (Child’s Play 2019) and Millie Bobby Brown, returning from the previous movie.
The movie never felt boring, and sure you don’t spend enough time with the people to really care about them, but that’s not why you’re watching this movie, you’re here for kaiju combat, and you get some fantastic action sequences here. From some of the fights that we’ve seen in the trailer to whole other stuff you don’t even know is coming until you see it, the action sequences are fantastic, and the CGI is really well done here.
The movie is just so much fun, which is why people like these movies in the first place. It’s pro wrestling with giant monsters, that’s what makes them work at their best, don’t overthink it, just enjoy the action, and the monster fights and theme park ride visuals, and have a good time.
