The Broker of Nightmares - A Vivid Chapbook by Jon Padgett
I am in love with Jon Padgett's writing, so I picked this little digital Chapbook up. It's a quick and fun read and its proceeds go to the ACLU.
My favorite thing about this story, and all of Jon Padgett's writing, is the surreal and dream-like sequences he produces so vividly. The premise is that a female doctor encounters a patient in emergency who keeps coming in looking for pain meds. This patient offers the doctor something in return for getting her 'fix'... dreams.
It's a fantastic concept that I would love to see fleshed out more, and that is my main issue with it. I really needed more; more backstory and more follow-through at the end.
I am always pleased when I'm done reading Jon Padgett's work. I only hope he's got a bigger plan for this underdeveloped idea that one day blossoms into a novella or even a novel. It's spooky and creative.
