Dearly Devoted Dexter - The Second Installment in the Dexter Series!
Once again I was plucked from my banal existence and dropped into the wicked world of Dexter Morgan. I truly love this world of his, and find myself feeling right at home in the mind of the serial killer with a moral code.
I feel like I can’t help but enjoy these books. The character of Dexter and his missions just generally appeal to me. This might make me a bit biased towards only writing favorable reviews on this series, but I can still objectively rate them as fairly as possible. The negative point I am giving this one pertains to the ‘quests’ Dexter found himself trying to complete in this second book. They were a bit less satisfying than those of the first. The positive? The main antagonist in this story brutally took apart victims in a way that is nearly unimaginable. I was horrified and taken aback by the methods used and the idea of someone doing that to another human being … well, it is severely disturbing and has tattooed itself onto my brain. I think that was the main selling point of this story for me.
I cared less for the story arc with Deborah and Rita in this one and felt like it might be more of a stepping stone towards the third book in the series. But that’s honestly okay with me, because I am certainly going to continue reading every book in this series unrelentingly.
