The Good House - Incredible, Enchanting, and Fulfilling Story
Wow! What a read. I took my time with it because of how much I enjoyed being inside of its pages.
The story follows Angela whose family has a history at The Good House in Sacajawea, Washington. The place is magic. The people who know that, like Angela's family, are aware of the land's past and have been destined to utilize it to help their community and ultimately learn some very heady lessons about themselves. Angela has had some serious trauma in her life that she is just trying to overcome, especially at The Good House. When she returns there after two years of being away, she finds disturbing and comforting presences who ache to communicate with her, despite her unwillingness to engage. When the community begins to be affected by these presences, Angela seeks answers from her past.
This novel is a carefully crafted piece of art which pulls you in from the beginning and gets you invested in every single character involved. The chapters keep you turning the pages and Tananarive Due works some magic through her words that will absolutely drown out your surroundings while you're reading. There is violence, vodou, intense family matters, and occasional love scenes that are so intimate and sexy. It really has it all.
At the end of the book, Tananarive Due's Acknowledgments section opened my eyes to why this book was so great: she put so much work and research into concocting this fantastic story, and real-life people influenced her character creation.
You simply must pick this one up. It will leave you enchanted and completely fulfilled.
