AHS 1984 - Episode Five - Red Dawn
So, we’re now at the tipping point episode of the story, what would be the “climax” were this a slasher movie instead of a TV series inspired by them. A few more twists, some more deaths, and well, let’s just get into it, shall we?
We start out with a flashback, as we so often do, with Donna discovering the truth about her father, that he isn’t cheating on her mother but is actually a serial killer. He then kills himself in front of her, thus starting her obsession with serial killers and uncovering what makes them snap.
Back in the present, the recently resurrected Richard Ramirez (gotta love awesome alliteration) explains to her that he was brought back by Satan himself, and he knows her truth now, that she is just like him, a sentiment which her father’s ghost echoes.
Meanwhile, back at the burning car, Xavier is having a meltdown, and he wants to burn the camp down to start a fire big enough so a helicopter can see and rescue them. Margaret knocks him out and they all go to the nearby cabin to come up with a plan. She suggests going across the lake to get help from the across the lake neighbors. Montana offers that Chet go with her, leaving her and Brooke alone with the unconscious Xavier in the cabin.
Halfway across the lake, Margaret admits that she’s the real killer to Chet before killing him and dumping his body in the lake. At the cabin, Donna shows up and comes clean about being the one to release Mr. Jingles from the asylum, which sends the now awake Xavier into a frenzy, and he tries to kill her, chasing her out of the cabin.
Donna runs into Richter (aka Mr. Jingles) and begs him to kill her as penance for her crimes, but he refuses. Richter then runs into Margaret, and is about to get his revenge on her before Xavier shows up with a bow and arrow from the archery range which they’re at, shooting him with multiple arrows until he’s dead. Margaret thanks Xavier before killing him herself.
Back at the cabin, Brooke thinks she saw Ray outside, not knowing he’s dead and that’s his ghost. She goes out to meet up with him and they have a good conversation at the cabin before she decides to give her virginity to him and they have sex. (I’m not quite sure how that works being that he’s a ghost, but I guess in this show ghosts can do that. If vampires can on Buffy and in Twilight I suppose ghosts can here too, just go with it)
In the afterglow Brooke decides to go for a drink from the fridge, only to discover Ray’s severed head inside, which understandably freaks her out and does the same for Ray, who was unaware he was dead. Brooke runs off back to the other cabin, and is attacked by Montana, who reveals her truth to her, that she blames her for her brother’s death.
The two struggle and fight as the sun comes up and the campers arrive just in time to see Brooke stabbing Montana to death. The cops show up and arrest Brooke, Margaret walks up but not before stabbing herself in the leg to play the victim once more.
Ray walks up to a medic and tries to go home in an ambulance, but as soon as the ambulance crosses the camp gate he wakes up on the ground, his spirit trapped on the grounds for eternity it seems.
Ramirez resurrects Richter (I love alliteration) and the two of them drive off to L.A. to wreak some havoc.
And that’s where we leave our counselors this week. This would be, as I mentioned, the end to the movie while leaving it open for a sequel.
Next week will be a special one, as it’s the 100th episode, can’t wait to see what surprises we have in store then.
