Come Closer - A Fast Paced Demonic Read!
I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this novella but I was pleasantly surprised by it! It was a really quick read for me, had I not started it late at night, it would have been a one sitting read.
This is a really fast paced story of demonic possession that had elements of humor between the horror and emotion.
The main character in this story was reminiscent of the main character in The Bus on Thursday, which I read earlier this year. She was a little bit sassy and sarcastic but was also trying desperately to hold her life together. Following her through the story was an enjoyable and strange experience.
The downfall of this is that it’s almost too fast paced. You’re never quite fully in the know, and maybe that was intentional, but I feel like more could have been done with the story. I think adding on a few more pages really would have given this story some better development.
The ending is as predictable as they come, but I was expecting that to be the case so it didn’t lessen my enjoyment. This didn’t need to try to be clever, it worked well using a plot that’s been done a million times before.
Overall I really enjoyed this novella, it was a quick and easy book to pick up and I’d definitely be interested in reading more of Gran’s work. I would have just liked a little more meat to the story, but it was still good as it was!
