Rue Morgue Coffin Box - MAIL BAG!
Mail Bag - Rue Morgue Coffin Box and Cavity Colors
It's mail bag time! This week I got some goodies in the mail and I'm here to share them with you all!
First up is the first ever Rue Morgue subscription Coffin Box. Rue Morgue is a horror magazine that was launched in 1977 and is issued bimonthly, distributed worldwide. They're an incredible magazine filled with thoughtful articles, interviews, reviews and more. This year they launched their subscription box - the Rue Morgue Coffin Box. I leapt at the chance to try one out and received it last week.
So every month they promise the latest issue of Rue Morgue Magazine, a movie selected by HorrorPack, one collectible/toy/pin etc, and one t-shirt. I absolutely enjoyed the things I got in the box but as far as subscription boxes, I feel like it has a few big steps it needs to take.
First - the box it arrived in was like a plain, black shoe box looking thing. Really not exciting to open. The other subscription boxes I subscribe to have great designs on their boxes, or at least their logo. It felt rather cheap.
Second - There was no spoiler pamphlet! I had no information on these items at all. They're definitely missing out with this because not only is it a chance for them to highlight the designers (like who made that incredible t-shirt design?) but also highlight themselves. Throw some hashtags on there so we know how to rep our boxes, throw some fun info on there so we can learn more about the items we're looking at. It can just be on small card - but it makes all the difference.
What did I love? Every item was great. And it's a bi-monthly subscription so you don't get overwhelmed with stuff every month that you end up not using or giving away. And is a lot less of a strain on the ol' wallet.
Obviously, this is their first box so I'm giving them a lot of leeway here. It's tough to pull together a successful subscription box and actually make money off of it. Hopefully the next few boxes improve with the branding and the involvement of the fans.
I'm absolutely going to get a few more months so that I can get my horror subscription box fix and I'm curious to see where it goes. Rue Morgue is a great company that has withstood the test of the time, I'm sure they can figure out a way to nail this.
So let's see what's inside!
There you have it!
Next up in my mail bag is my new t-shirt from Cavity Colors which is an amazing horror retail site. They make t-shirts, posters and enamel pins. They do tones of great collections including The Fog, Hatchet, You're Next and official Shock Waves merch. Their designs are always stunning and while the overall cost + shipping can run a little high for someone living in Canada like myself, it's always worth it.
They always include an awesome book mark featuring some of their designs and this time around I got an awesome Goosebumps sticker with a fake cover featuring Hocus Pocus.
That's it! Great mail week for me!
