American Horror Story Apocalypse Episode Four Recap
American Horror Story and The Deathly Hallows.....JK but we’ve taken a turn into the magical world of witches and warlocks. It’s AHS Apocalypse episode four “could it be...Satan?”
We get a little more backstory on Langdon and Ms. Mead but honestly it’s made me more confused. Ms. Mead raised Langdon in a nice home where they prayed to Satan before they ate and discussed how Ms. Mead killed all her husbands. But has she always been a robot? Or is this a random woman that raised Langdon and then she died and he made a robot of her?
I don’t know but we’ll put that on the shelf for later as Langdon confronts the witches who have just raised Mallory, Coco and Dinah from the dead. It seems like Cordelia had put identity spells on them before the world ended to protect them and make them forget how powerful they were. But now it’s lifted.
“I always thought the world would end in fire and ice, not witches and warlocks”
Cut to three years before the bomb.
We’re back in the shelter but it was actually a wizarding school for boys. It’s run by a few teachers and the Chancellor named Ariel. He’s brought some interesting footage that he got from the police station.
It shows a young man being beaten up in an investigation room before he attacks the police officer and kills him without ever using his hands. Ariel believes this young man could be incredibly powerful and so he rescues him and brings him to the school. We realize this young man is Michael Langdon.
After awhile the teachers decide to test Langdon and put him through a series of challenges, all of which he passes. It’s as Ariel thought - Langdon is the ultimate Supreme. He will be able to take back the power from the witches and let the warlocks run things for awhile. Men, am I right? Ugh. Apparently there’s some beef between the witches and the warlocks. When Cordelia became Supreme, apparently she said some stuff and the school for the warlocks got burnt down. It’s pretty vague. But probably safe to assume it’s a male ego thing.
Ariel calls a meeting and Cordelia, Myrtle, and Zoe visit the underground warlock school. Ariel and his fellow board members tell Cordelia that they’ve found a man stronger than her. They request that she put him through the ultimate trials. She turns them down and they begin questioning her about her leadership. They bring up the missing Queenie as an example.
We learn that Queenie is trapped in the Hotel Cortez (from AHS Hotel). Cordelia attempted to break her free but the hotel resisted her. She believes Satan runs that place.
Ariel demands that Cordelia let Langdon go through the trials but she shuts him down, “because I’m the fucking supreme.” And the entire world stood up and applauded….no? Just me? That’s fine.
Langdon, who had been listening in, heads to the Hotel Cortez and easily breaks out Queenie. He then goes to hell and breaks Madison out of her personal hell because that’s where she’s been hanging out. Which is a great scene where Madison works in a clothing store constantly folding towels and having to deal with customers returning product. I’m being triggered about my own retail background.
And so as Cordelia and her fellow witches leave the academy they see Langdon arriving with a now safe and sound Queenie and Madison. Cordelia collapses to the ground.
I am LOVING this extensive back story. Seeing the politics play out between the witches and the warlocks is incredible. And learning more about all of them is fascinating. Clearly this bomb that went off is not as simple as a terrorist attack. It’s somehow got witches and warlocks written all over it. And does this mean that Langdon actually is the current reigning Supreme?
I have to say, four episodes in and I’m still interested. Usually this is where I drop off and then give up. The last season I watched the whole way through was Freakshow. But I’m invested this time. I love all these characters and I’m OBSESSED with Michael Langdon.
Check in next week and we’ll discuss episode 5!
