Everything Spooky coming to Canadian Netflix in October!
October is so close I can almost hear the screams of my bank account as I diminish it on special editions t-shirts, decorations, and the Fan Expo convention.
There’s many reasons to be excited about October, the first being that I am my most powerful, the second being IT’S OCTOBER YOU GUYS, and the third being that there’s so much great content coming out.
I wanna talk about the four Netflix projects I am most excited about that are coming in October. And at the bottom you’ll find a list of everything spooky arriving on Canadian Netflix this October.
First up is Riverdale. Now, before you yell at me for many reasons, I know that Riverdale is not owned by Netflix. BUT – it does release new episodes weekly the day after they premier on the CW. Back in the day when I could not afford cable, this was my only way to watch it.
And yes, Riverdale is not for everyone. But everyone who follows my twitter account knows I love to live tweet Riverdale episodes and FP Jones is a mother fucking American hero.
So, yeah, I’m pretty FREAKIN EXCITED for it to come back.
Where did it leave off last season?
We no longer had a murder mystery on our hands like in season one, but we had a Zodiac killer type roaming Riverdale called the Black Hood. There were mobsters named Poutine, there was class clashes between the south side and the north side, there was a lot of weird moments surrounding the fact that Polly joined a cult – yet no one made a big deal of it? But in our season finale it left us with Betty’s Dad being locked up like Hannibal Lector, Archie in handcuffs and Hiram Lodge ruling Riverdale.
On October 10th, season three begins and on October 11th the premier will show up on Netflix.
I’m excited for the new season because it looks they finally noticed Polly is in a cult, obviously they’re going to have to figure out how to get Archie off for murder, and now with Cheryl being a proud member of the Serpents….I mean…I’M SO EXCITED. And, there was a little sexy scene in the trailer showing FP and Alice in bed together and OMG MY DREAM COME TRUE. I’ve been rooting for Alice and FP since day fucking one you guys.
Follow me on twitter to get my live reactions, or block me on twitter so that you don’t have to hear my insane ramblings. But we do have a lot of fun over there!
Next up is also within the Riverdale universe – Netflix is premiering The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. We heard Greendale mentioned in Riverdale, and Sabrina will be set in that town. The show will focus on Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka) and the world of Greendale around her. Her aunts Zelda (Miranda Otto) and Hilda (Lucy Davis) will be there and her boyfriend Harvey (Ross Lynch) will be making an appearance.
We also see that Sabrina’s cousin Ambrose (Chance Perdomo) is around and under house arrest. The first season will have 10 episodes that premier on October 26th. Season two has already been confirmed.
The trailer gives us lots of creepy vibes and possible demons and cults. It looks like it’s going to be way darker than Riverdale and super bizarre. I’m really excited as I love the darker comics this show is based on. This modern day Sabrina is wrestling with her half witch, half mortal life and struggles to deal with the evil forces that threaten her family and her mortal friends.
It looks beautiful and I’m really excited for this one!
No matter where you stand on the Stephen Avery case - one thing is true - we all loved and binged Making a Murderer. Season two just got announced and it’s dropping SOON. October 19th to be exact.
Season two will follow the same case, but this time instead of the evidence and the court case leading up to it, this will follow the other side.
Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos have exclusive access to Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey. It will detail the post-conviction process and the effects. We’ll get to see the defense lawyer, Katherine Zellner. This will build on part 1 and follow along on this insane case that the two men maintain to this day that they did not commit.
I’m really excited for this. I still don’t know where I stand on this case and all of those involved. Sometimes Oprah and I will just find ourselves in the middle of a discussion about it without even realizing how we got there in the first place.
I’m curious to see the new takes, hear everyone’s new theories, and enjoy a good ol’ binge watch.
On October 12th we will be seeing a 10-part series hit Netflix from Mike Flanagan called Haunting of Hill House. Based on the 1959 novel by Shirley Jackson, this story has been adapted a few times. This particular adaptation is going to be set in the present with ongoing flashbacks that feature the five Crane siblings dealing with sadness and their time spent living in Hill House.
The Haunting of Hill House is widely known as one of the best haunted houses stories ever. While a ghost is never seen, the story relies on the way the characters react to the phenomenon going on in the house. It also has a very shocking ending that’s hard to see coming.
It will be interesting to see where Flanagan goes with it but I have full faith in him. His previous adaptation, Gerald’s Game, was an incredible piece of work and all of his films are beautiful and terrifying.
It’s going to be a crazy month fitting all these episodes of TV in….but I’m sure we’ll manage…but also I’m starting to freak out a little bit.
Lastly, Netflix is releasing a Netflix original movie called Apostle which hits their lineup on October 12th. It’s being called a period horror film that is written and directed by Gareth Evans. It stars Dan Stevens, Lucy Boynton, Mark Lewis Jones, Bill Milner, Kristine Froseth and Michael Sheen.
The trailer looks horrifying. I feel like this movie is really gonna fuck us all up. Michael Sheen is already showing off his incredible acting chops in the trailer and looks to be a terrifying character. There’s a lot of freaky imagery in the trailer and I actually turned it off half way through as it kind of shows A LOT of the flick so beware.
It’s set in 1905 where Thomas Richardson travels to a remote island to rescue his sister. She’s been kidnapped by a religious cult that are demanding a ransom for her return.
My only concern about this movie is that it runs over 2 hours. I really don’t think horror has any business being that long, but I’m none the less excited to see it.
Reviews are coming out already about it being gory as hell and a totally twisted flick.
And here’s the list of all the spooky flicks headed to Canadian Netflix this October:
