Channel Zero Episode by Episode - Episode Two PLOT TWIST
Alright spooky dudes, as you know, I am slowly making my way through Channel Zero as I’ve never seen it before. I’m not big on TV so bare with me on this adventure. You can check out my recap of Episode One HERE!
Also, I noticed this episode was written by one of my heroes - Don Mancini!!!!! Let’s jump right in!
Episode Two - I’ll Hold Your Hand
“All your secrets are safe in Candle Cove.” It’s 1988 again, a man discovers the 4 bodies of the missing kids. One is on the ground, and the rest are scattered in a tree. How the fuck did they get up there?! Tooth kid?!
This episode is clearly all about Bravery Cave which we briefly heard about in Episode 1. It sounds like something my therapist tells me to go into when I’m in public. Katie is back watching Candle Cove again and the weird puppet things are telling her to look under the bed. “Look under the bed Katie, we miss you.” This child is hella brave because she clearly looks under the bed. And finds a hook. And promptly stabs her brother Dane. As you do.
Jessica calls Mike and asks him to come back and talk to Katie who is refusing to talk after stabbing her brother. Dane survived though, hooray! Mike returns and his Mom, Marla, decides to help him sort out this Candle Cove drama.
Marla goes to what I’m assuming is the local broadcasting station. There’s a creepy guy working there who promises to show her an episode of the allusive Candle Cove. She starts watching it only to realize prettttty quickly that this is homemade. “It’s Fanfic!” Okay creepy guy, okay. My fanfic is a 4000 word drabble about D&D characters. But sure, your weird puppet video can be fanfic.
What she does find out is that Candle Cove was unrecordable. It never aired on the same channel and would only show up on one of the dead channels. The creepy guy points out - you had to find it. So now Marla knows for sure this was a real show. And while I’m still unconvinced, I’ll roll with it.
Mike finds a drawing in the hospital of what appears to be Candle Cove and the Bravery Cave. He gets Katie to talk to him and she shares that there was a boy in the cave with her. And tells Mike he needs to go inside. When he leaves, we see the security camera aimed on her room and tooth kid shows up. Probably wanting more teeth.
Amy, one of the police officers, is reporting to a break in. The woman lets her know that the only thing stolen was her keepsake box which had a bunch of worthless jewelry in it and her kids teeth. TOOTH KID?! WAS THAT YOU?!
Mike’s daughter Lilly calls him and at one point tells him, “you have to go inside.” So I’m thinking Mike really needs to go inside this cave. He talks to his Mama about it and she says it’s probably the old mining building where him and Eddie used to play as kids.
The two make their way there and Mike finds Eddie’s body. It’s basically mummified and surrounded by candles.
There’s some more flashbacks. I’m starting to get annoyed with the flashbacks? It’s just a lot of Eddie and Mike staring at each other. Also, I will admit...I may have forgot that they were identical twins. I was getting super annoyed that I couldn’t tell them apart and was like damn why didn’t they cast more different looking kids. Then oops. Right. Identical twins. Problem solved.
Mike sits Marla down and very calmly says that he killed Eddie and buried him in the woods. And then is like, isn’t it strange that when they looked for Eddie in the woods they couldn’t find him? I mean, I buried him right there! NO MICHAEL. THAT ISN’T STRANGE. WHAT’S STRANGE IS YOU MURDERING YOUR TWIN BROTHER.
Marla reacts in the right way and promptly stabs her son in the hand and runs away to the police.
Gary shows up and says he’s taking Mike to the station for questioning over Eddie’s death. But then he turns the car away from the station. WHERE ARE THEY GOING?!
Also, the teacher (I think it’s her?) is out in her backyard holding a handful of teeth. Tooth kid comes out of the woods and starts eating out of her hand. So there’s THAT.
I almost puked at this scene - I really can’t handle teeth you guys. And the sounds….THE SOUNDS. Also, quick question - if Tooth Kid is made out of teeth...and it eats teeth...does it eat itself?
