Last Minute Horror Book Gift Guide!
The holiday season is a wonderful time to give books as gifts. I’ve got a couple of suggestions for the horror lovers in your life, young and old.
My daughter just turned 12 years old a couple of weeks ago and is beginning to get into anything horror related. Recently a good friend of mine sent my daughter a book about the life of horror writer Mary Shelley called Little People, Big Dreams Mary Shelley by Isabel Sanchez Vegara. This book series (for children) explains the lives and accomplishments of important writers, musicians, and historical figures. These books have wonderful illustrations as well. So, this holiday season, if you are looking for something a little different for a young person this series of books are just the ticket.
If you are a grown up looking for an excellent book about female Gothic writers, I highly recommend Monster, She Wrote; The Women Who Pioneered Horror And Speculative Fiction by Lisa Kroger And Melanie R. Anderson. This book goes into great detail about past and present female horror writers. I found this book a delight to read and I learned a great deal about writers that I’ve always admired.
If you love all things strange and unusual then It Came From Ohio by the talented author James Renner is a great read. This book covers a wide arrange of urban legends, cryptids tales, and alien stories from the state of Ohio. It’s a very quick and fun read for the teenager or young adult in your life. I could not recommend this interesting and eerie book more.
Now if you’re looking for something a bit scarier, for the adults in your life, then definitely check out Paul Tremblay’s book A Head Full Of Ghosts. This excellent and terrifying book is hard to put down once you start it. Paul Tremblay has become one of the leading voices in horror fiction and his work is loved by the likes of Stephen King. The story goes into great detail about a family and their experiences with demonic possession.
Lastly, if you are wanting a book the whole family could enjoy, how about Varla Ventura’s Paranormal Parlor: Ghost, Seances & Tales Of True Hauntings. Who doesn’t love sitting around a nice fire and sharing haunting stories of ghosts and the paranormal?! This book has a bunch of short stories about true hauntings and Varla does a great job telling these stories. An easy read that the whole family could enjoy!
