My Dead and Blackened Heart is a compilation of short stories written by Andrew Freudenberg. The stories are very well written and engaging, however some of the stories just end… they just leave you hanging and wondering… ‘what just happened here?’ Which is sad as he builds up these amazing back stories that build up suspense, anxiety, a true feeling of fear. Then the story just ends.

The stories toward the end of the book pick up and hold strength well. Great story telling, building up the climax, and epic endings.

These stories really stood out to for their pure genius writing. They lead you on this amazing adventure with twists and turns that always leave you guessing. A Bitter Parliament, for example, takes you on a mind tripping adventure with suspense and sheer terror. Milkshake is truly a WTF read. Its twists and turns make it fantastic. As a Southerner I fond this one rather good. You’ll have to read it to find out everything that happens!

While a majority of the book is engaging and edge of your seat reading, especially the latter half of the book, I’m giving the book a 3/5 since it struggles slightly in the beginning and the endings in most of the stories kind of leaving you in a ‘what just happened’ state.
