Camp of No Return: MonsterStreet #4
This fourth installment of the MonsterStreet series was just as fun as the other three. Each of these books draw on different horror themes, so any kid reading it will always find the horror trope that appeals most to them. Clearly, MonsterStreet is a place where each book is like trick-or-treating at a new house with a new and different monster living there. It's awesome.
I am once again excited by the contemporary references used that make the MonsterStreet series feel very current and present. Getting to read these books so close to when they were written allows me to connect on several levels and enjoy the horror references. It's going to be awesome for kids who get to grow up with these books.
This story is about a young girl getting called to an elite summer camp that has some very mysterious policies and behaviors surrounding it. I've always loved a good spooky camp story, and this one does not disappoint!
My favorite thing about Reynolds' writing is that the words he uses drop hints to what might happen later, but only when you reach the end can you put it all together - even as an adult! The misdirection is fun and keeps the reader interested the whole way through.
I sure hope there's more of these coming!
