Early Look: Case 347 - Head Down The Rabbit Hole With Me
One absolute favorite thing of mine is when a movie can pull me in to a point where I am not sure I’m watching a movie, and Case 347 achieves that beautifully. At this point of writing I’m still questioning if I could find evidence of this case in government archives. If a film was ever going to convince you to dive into the rabbit hole that is the alien phenomenon, then Case 347 is your push off the edge. The events of the videos that we see take us through a slow burn journey, as a film crew attempts to disprove the existence of alien abduction.
Lead by psychologist Mia, our camera crew Rex & Charlie meet with a variety of ufologists and abductees in their search for their truth. Alien phenomenon has been a subject of debate for generations, and that debate continues within the footage we see. The people that our crew encounters very clearly have a deep belief in the existence of aliens, and in those who claim to have endured alien abduction. Within the core team there is occasional hints that, while Mia is firm in her belief, Rex may be questioning whether or not the abductees have a kernel of truth to their tales. Any movie that includes this debate can be sure to draw attention from both sides, and often instigate conversations about belief or disbelief from those who hadn’t ever voiced their side before. Case 347 is a movie that is well deserving of that attention and discussion, because it does make you take a long look at where you stand in the alien debate.
The casting is another part of the movie that impresses its audience throughout the film. Writer/Director Chris Wax is part of our core cast, playing the role of Charlie, and he adds a balance to the differing beliefs on alien abduction within the film. Alongside him, as Mia, is actress Maya Stojan and she is impressive as the lead of the team with a personal stake in the research they’re doing. Not quite disbelieving Rex is portrayed by Jason Kropik, who brings a little bit of belief into the story and does it in a way that’s relatable to those who are far less certain that aliens are fiction. Checking IMDB shows that the cast doesn’t have a massive listing of credits, but you can tell that they have the talent to continue to create some worthwhile projects for the cinema world. This film has me looking forward to seeing more from each of the cast members.
Case 347 is a found-footage film that does all the right things. We don’t get any massive lengths of shaky cam that make you feel like you need to take Dramamine before a viewing. We also get night-vision shots that are bright enough to let you see what is going on, but still never lose that immersed feeling. You’ll feel anxious, and you’ll find yourself leaning in towards the screen. This film will hold your attention, it’ll let you savor it’s rising anxiety, and then it will earn your appreciation with its climax. This is a movie that you’ll want to see, especially with others, so you can debate your alien stance in its aftermath.
You can watch this film yourself RIGHT NOW! DarkCoast has released the film digitally as of today (FLIXFLING, Vimeo on Demand, Vudu, Amazon, iTunes, Google Play)
