“Whatever you do, do not listen. Ignore that pull, the need to escape from drudgeries of life and find peace and solitude within nature. You will tremble as they revel in your madness, taking everything from you and leaving you with nothing. Delve inside this anthology of what truly lurks within the shadows of the trees. Created by award-winning horror and fiction authors from around the world. We dare you to take this journey with us and find out what horrors await you. The Forest Is Calling. Will you answer?”
Upon reading the above passage, I couldn’t wait to dive in and encounter the nightmares that awaited me. It Calls from the Forest did not disappoint. Every story felt like a new trail that took me deeper and deeper into the macabre forest that twenty-three authors came together to create.
One of the biggest highlights for me was how different the stories were from each other. This made it very easy to stay in the same setting without ever feeling like the experience was getting stale. Whether I was encountering beasts, ghouls, or even fairies, I was provided with a brand new vision of the same terrifying place.
It is also worth noting that some of these stories take place in broad daylight, further accentuating the danger as well as taking any sort of safety net that may have existed away from the reader. The thought of not being safe whether it be day or night was something that built a tension that carried over from story to story and was a very unique experience.
During this strange time we are all going through, entertainment has been a way to try and keep some normalcy present. I myself have been trying to watch as many movies and read as many books as I possibly can. If you are looking for something that will add some entertainment in your own life I highly suggest you give It Calls from the Forest a read. It kept me captivated throughout and hit every note I look for as a horror fan. I hope everyone out there stays as safe and healthy as possible and hope that you enjoy It Calls from the Forest as much as I did.
