49 Miles Alone - A Fast Paced Survival Thriller!
“But I’m not afraid of the desert. I’m not afraid of dehydration or flash floods or even being alone. The last eleven months have taught me that people are the only thing worth fearing.”

“A raven. Its beak gleams in the darkness, wet and dark with blood. She watches as it opens its mouth. She doesn’t know which one of them screams.”
Here’s what I loved:
I absolutely love a wilderness survival horror so I was really excited to pick this one up. This had everything I wanted. There’s some super tense moments in here and the last third of the book I devoured super quickly because I was terrified to see how it all ended. You can easily read this in one or two sittings.
There’s a couple of good twists in here too. I did figure out the major one pretty quick, but it didn’t take away from the story. It just became more interesting to read and see how long it took Katie and Aster to figure it out.
The friendship storyline here is obviously a big part. And the traumatic event that happened to one of them that sets off this journey is tough to read, so make sure to check trigger warnings. While the actual event is not described in detail, it’s referred to a lot and isn’t hard to imagine. It’s hard to read in some parts as the two of them battle with their internal struggles and trauma, but it’s super real, and my heart ached for the two of them. I think the friendship was written really well.
Overall, this is a super fun, fast paced read, great for summer. Especially if you love survival horror! A big thank you to Sourcebooks for sending me an advanced copy of 49 Miles Alone in exchange for an honest review. Pick up a copy for yourself tomorrow!
